Heber Utah area Trip 2020

Diary of Roger and Linda's Utah Heber area trip - Septemper 2020

09/22/20 day 1 Left today for our Heber, UT trip. Stayed the first night at Oasis RV Park in Las Vegas.

09/23/20 day 2 Stayed the 2nd night at Cedar Breaks RV Park. Bought whole wheat bread and cinnamon rolls at the Great Harvest Bakery. Yum Yum

09/24/20 day 3 Drove to Heber City, UT and stayed for 5 nights at the Mountain Valley RV Park. This is a quite new facility with nice large paved sites and lots of green grass.
This get together was part of an old Titanium group. Mitch and Dana Brown , Scott and Denise Thompson were located right next to us. Scott had a gas camp fire device which he lit every night. It was very pleasant to warm us in the brisk mountain air while having pleasant conversation at night. Linda and I both really enjoyed everyone who attended this outing. We enjoyed Scott’s home cooked outdoor breakfast virtually every morning and he also cooked a couple of evening meals which were good and fun. I also enjoyed socializing with long time friends Mitch and Dana.

09/25/20 day 4 Our Titanium furnace last night started squealing in the middle of the night and shot out puffs of smoke into our kitchen area. I got it turned off and decided that it was probably a failed bearing. This was so scary however and we both then and there decided it was time for a new trailer. Scott Thompson had been touting Grand Design trailers and we ended up purchasing a Grand Design Solitude 310-GK 6 days later from Nielson’s RV in St. George, UT

09/26/20 day 5 The Thompson’s live in the area and decided to take us on a mountain drive to Cascade Springs, a famous tourist location in the mountains. The Thompson’s and the Browns went together and Linda, Charlie Dog and I followed them in our new Dodge Ram pickup. The road through the mountains wasin full color and really awesome. We walked 2 or 3 miles on a trail at the Springs which was so beautiful. We then drove on perhaps 60 miles on a mountain loop road past various ski resorts. The resorts were too busy to visit as it was a week end. We did stop at Bridal Veil Falls to get a closer look and shot a few photos. The lighting at this falls is almost always in the shade. Not an easy site to photograph. This is perhaps the most popular time of year for tourist to visit this area because of the fall colors and the pleasant temperatures.

09/27/20 day 6 Jeff and Mollie Bowers, my sisters daughter and son-in-law, visited us for dinner this evening bringing delicious gourmet hamburgers cooked using the Sous-vide method. Jeff also brought one of his sons along. We had a delightful time catching up on current events since our last visit with them.

09/28/20 day 7 The other 3 couples in the get together left this morning. I spent the day calling various RV dealers looking for Grand Design Solitude 5th wheels. Also got packed up for departure tomorrow morning.

09/29/20 day 8 Left this morning for Cedar Breaks RV Park for a 2 day stay.

09/30/20 day 9 Got up early and did a driving tour up to Cedar Breaks National Monument and Brian Head Ski Resort. It was very cool but a beautiful sunny day great for sight seeing and photography. I brought my DJI drone along but it was bit too windy to fly. Stopped many times to shoot photos of the deep scenic canyons.

10/01/20 day 10 Left early and drove to Nielsons RV dealer in St. George, UT. We looked at 3 different models of the Grand Design 5th wheels and decided to buy the 310-GK model. They gave us a price which included $10k for our old trailer which we accepted with no additional negotiation. We did add a 5k Onan generator which required us to return later to actually pick up the trailer. We closed the deal for $80k out of pocket in about 3 hours and drove on to Mesquite, NV. We had Thai food lunch with my sister Joanne. We then drove on to the Oasis RV park in Las Vegas to spend the night.

10/02/20 day 11 Left about 9:00 am for our drive home to San Diego. The traffic was horrible and we made it home around 6:00pm already in the dark. This was a Monday and apparently we were not the only ones thinking a Monday would be less traffic than a Sunday. We enjoyed our trip a lot and were looking forward to picking up our new trailer in 1 - 2 weeks.
