Wild Animal Park Photo Shoot Diary 2011

Diary of my trip's to SD Wild Animal Park in 2011

04/3/11 Linda and I drove out to the park arriving just before 9:00am to Meet Virginia and Dewey. We had a enjoyable walk around the park for about 2.5 hours and then Linda got hungry so we headed for BJ's Bar and Grill at North County Fair for a nice lunch including some high end micro brewery beer.

04/27/11 I went to the San Diego Wild Animal park to visit and photograph the Butterfly Exhibit. They let me into the park at 8:45am. It was crowded a bit but not as bad as last year. A starting time ticket is required to get in. There were more butterfly's on display than previous years. I brought my tripod, 580ex II flash, 7d camera, and 100mm Canon macro lens. I was able to use tripod and I used the flash hand held moving it around to focus on the subject I was photographing. Fortunately I did not drop it. I used the camera built in flash as fill which also triggered the remote slave 580ex wireless. It worked good except the camera would get slow saying it was busy, I think waiting for the built in flash to recharge. Next time I will use built in flash for trigger only which will hopefully make the recharge allot faster. Got some nice shots but not super ones. A longer macro lens would be nice.

11/06/11 Linda and I drove out to the Wild Animal Park arriving just before 9:00am to Meet Virginia and Dewey. The weather included intermittent sprinkles. We walked pass the gorillas and the Cheetah getting some good photos. We then decided to do the train tour. We next went to the elephant enclosure at 11:00am to watch the feeding and see the recently born baby elephant. We had a enjoyable walk around the park for about 3 hours. Linda got real hungry so we headed for the Macaroni Grill at North County Fair for a nice lunch. As usual we had a very nice time with Virginia and Dewey.
